The Institute for Women’s & Gender Studies (WGS) is pleased to announce a new small grant initiative for WGS core and affiliate faculty! WGS can now offer funding of up to $1000 towards the development of Gender Interest Groups (GIGs). GIGs are intended for faculty who are interested in establishing interdisciplinary discussion/reading/working groups around a given theme. These can be formal or informal, one-time or multi-time events, but we hope they will lead to longer term collaborations and applications for external funding in at least some cases. Examples of GIGs might include: thinking across borders, women in STEM, conducting ethical community-based research, and reproductive justice in Georgia--but possibilities are endless. Required: Meetings should be open to any interested core or affiliate faculty at UGA as well as people involved with women’s and gender studies elsewhere in the USG system. (WGS can help spread the word.) Funds can be used for materials (books, film tickets, speaker stipend, field trip, etc.) or refreshments. WGS space can be reserved for group meetings if desired. TO APPLY: GIG grants will be approved on a rolling basis. Brief proposals (theme/objective of group, proposed use of funds, sense of targeted group members) can be submitted directly to WGS director Patricia Richards at plr333@uga.edu. Please note: because of USG rules, grant funds must be disbursed in the form of reimbursements.
