Congratulations to Women's Studies seniors, Ahana Gaurav and Nina Reddy (class of 2020), whose CURO funded research project on colorism was accepted into numerous international and national conferences.

The paper, titled Colorism's Influence on Dating and Relationship Formation in the Indian-American Community, explores how colorism influences dating preferences and relationship formation specifically within the Indian-American community. It examines a range of identities, including age, ethnicity, gender, sexuality, and generation to uncover how they interact with an individual's perceptions about skin tone.

In addition to the 2020 IWS Student Symposium, their paper was accepted into the following conferences:

  • The SouthEastern Undergraduate Sociology Symposium at Emory University (SEUSS)
  • 2020 WEI Vienna International Academic Conference on Humanities and Social Sciences (WEI-HSS-Vienna 2020)
  • 42nd International Conference on Social Sciences, Business, Technology and Management (SBTM) in Seoul, South Korea
  • 13th Academic International Conference on Social Sciences and Humanities in Boston, MA (FLE Learning)

Nina Reddy was also awarded the Fulbright-Nehru English Teaching Assistant grant in 2020. This grant provides its recipients the opportunity to teach English in non-elite institutions in India while engaging meaningfully with different cultures and communities. Congratulations Nina!
