Assistant Professor, Dept. of Comparative Literature Assistant Professor in Comparative Literature A specialist in Korean literature, film, and visual culture, Dr. Mi-Ryong Shim teaches a wide range of courses related to Korea and East Asia including East Asian Cinema, East Asian Literature, and War in East Asian Film and Literature. Dr. Shim taught at Northwestern University before coming to the University of Georgia. She received her BA, MA, and PhD from Columbia University. Dr. Shim's research interests include: migration and displacement, globalization, colonialism and postcolonialism, and cultures of militarism. She is currently working on a book that examines Korean transnational mobility - in modes of translation, migration and tourism - in the wartime Japanese empire and Asia. Her latest publications include "Conversion Literature (chŏnhyang sosŏl) and the Inward Gaze in the Late Colonial Period" in the Routledge Companion to Korean Literature (forthcoming). She is also a published translator of Korean literature.
